Professional Drone Roof Surveys

A drone roof survey is a close-up inspection of a roof carried out by a camera-equipped drone, producing HD footage, a written condition report and a costed repair quotation, with no scaffolding and no one setting foot on the roof. The drone captures every part of the roof, including chimneys, valleys, flashing and flat sections that cannot be judged properly from the ground. Where there is an active leak or recent storm damage, the same visit doubles as an emergency assessment, and a temporary mitigation spray can be applied on the day to slow the water ingress while a permanent repair is arranged. Every survey ends with clear footage, a plain-English report and a quotation, so the next step is always your decision.

How a drone roof survey works

  1. Booking and call-out: Book a survey online or by phone. For active leaks and storm damage, a rapid call-out can usually be arranged, so the roof is assessed quickly rather than after a long wait for scaffolding.
  2. On-site safety check: The pilot checks the site for obstructions such as trees, aerials and power lines, and confirms it is safe and clear to fly before take-off.
  3. Drone inspection: The drone carries out a slow, systematic sweep of the whole roof, with close passes over chimney stacks, valleys, flashing and any flat sections. HD photos and video are captured throughout. A typical house takes around 20 minutes.
  4. Temporary leak mitigation: Where there is an active leak, a temporary mitigation spray or seal can be applied to stabilise the affected area on the day, reducing further water damage while a permanent repair is planned.
  5. Condition report: Findings are written up in a clear, jargon-free condition report, supplied alongside the footage and photographs, so the evidence is yours to keep.
  6. Repair quotation: A costed quotation is provided for any work the survey identifies, with no obligation to proceed.

What a drone roof inspection reveals

A drone roof inspection picks up the faults that stay hidden from ground level, because most roof problems are only visible from above or up close. Common findings include:

Slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates

Damaged or missing lead flashing around chimneys and abutments

Cracked flaunching and loose or damaged chimney pots

Blocked or sagging gutters and failed downpipe joints

Flat roof problems including blistering, splits and ponding water

Failed pointing on ridges, verges and chimney stacks

Fascia and soffit damage

Drainage issues such as water pooling in valleys or behind chimney stacks

Benefits of a drone roof survey

  • No scaffolding or ladders: The whole roof is inspected from the air, which is faster and safer than traditional access and removes the cost and delay of hiring scaffolding for an inspection.
  • Sees what the ground misses: Close-up footage of flashing, valleys, chimney stacks and flat sections shows detail that is impossible to judge from below.
  • HD footage you keep: You receive the photos and video, useful for insurance claims, party wall matters or getting a second opinion.
  • Fast turnaround: A typical survey takes around 20 minutes on site, with the condition report and quotation following shortly after.
  • Survey fee credited back: If you proceed with the recommended works through Bernard Andrews or an approved roofing partner, £200 of the survey fee is credited against the final invoice.

Drone roof survey cost

A drone roof survey costs £400 plus VAT as a fixed call-out, which includes the full drone inspection, HD footage and photographs, temporary leak mitigation where needed, a written condition report and a repair quotation. If you go ahead with the recommended works through Bernard Andrews or an approved roofing partner, £200 is credited back against the final invoice, so the survey pays towards the repair. For an inspection on its own, a drone survey usually works out cheaper than hiring scaffolding or a cherry picker, and far quicker to arrange.

Chimney Flaunching and Pot Repair

We removed cracked flaunching and secured loose chimney pots to prevent water ingress, a common problem that often gets missed during a routine inspection. Faults at the top of a chimney stack sit well out of sight from ground level, which is exactly why a close view of the roof matters. A drone roof survey brings the camera right up to the flaunching, pots and flashing, so problems like this are picked up before they let water into the property.

Before

After

  • Cracked flaunching removed from the chimney stack
  • Loose chimney pots secured against further movement
  • Water ingress at the chimney prevented
  • A common high-level fault that is easy to miss from ground level

How much does a drone roof survey cost?

A drone roof survey is £400 plus VAT, covering the inspection, HD footage, temporary leak mitigation where needed, a condition report and a repair quotation. If you proceed with the works through Bernard Andrews or an approved roofing partner, £200 is credited back against the final invoice.

You can fly a small drone over your own property for personal use, but flying close to buildings and in built-up areas is governed by Civil Aviation Authority rules, and commercial surveys should be carried out by a qualified, insured pilot. Our surveys are flown by a CAA-approved drone pilot, fully insured for commercial work.

Most surveys take around 20 minutes on site for a typical house. The condition report and quotation follow shortly after the visit.

A drone roof survey is usually faster, safer and cheaper than putting up scaffolding for an inspection, and it captures detail that cannot be judged from the ground. You also keep the footage for insurance or a second opinion.

A drone inspection can identify the likely points where water is getting in, such as cracked flashing, failed pointing or slipped tiles. Where there is an active leak, temporary mitigation can be applied on the day to slow the ingress before a permanent repair.

Yes. Bernard Andrews can carry out the repair directly, or match the job to the most suitable specialist from our vetted roofing network. Either way you are not left with only a report, and £200 of the survey fee is credited back if you proceed.

You receive HD photographs and video footage, a written condition report of the roof, and a costed quotation for any recommended work.
